So the maintenance minder on my 2017 911 just pinged for the biannual brake fluid flush and while I’m in there I noticed the front pads are maybe sixty percent worn and the rotors have a tiny lip starting to form but nothing that’s setting off any alarms yet and I’m trying to decide whether to just knock out the fluid and leave the pads alone for another six months or just bite the bullet and do the full Porsche brake system maintenance and replacement now while the car is already in the shop and I don’t have to think about it again until 2028. The dealer quote was predictably astronomical and included a line item for “cleaning and lubricating caliper guide pins” which I’m pretty sure is just code for spraying brake cleaner and slapping some copper paste on things but maybe I’m being cynical. I found an independent in Al Quoz that seems to know the difference between the base Carrera steel setup and the S models with the bigger hats and they’re quoting a much more reasonable number using genuine Textar pads and ATE fluid but part of me is wondering if I should just push the pads to the end of their life and combine it with the next service interval instead of doing it prematurely. Anyone else with a 991 on the original brakes have a sense of how many more kilometers I can realistically squeeze out of pads that are just past halfway before the wear sensor starts crying wolf.
